Key Points

  • Greater focusing on key resources can have a large impact on the community.
  • For groups that are too small to get traction on their own, a collaborative approach can be beneficial.
  • Clusters provide a very useful vehicle for groups to collectively look at the future - especially when individual groups consist of a collection of disparate individuals.
  • Look carefully at the resource and the problem - neither may be the true problem or real resource.
  • In New Zealand, while some resources may be very small they can have a big impact and potential.
  • View your resources on a national scale as well as locally. Select projects that are relevant to national priorities - there may be more funding options.
  • Pay attention to the accountability of a project.
  • When planning a project, start with the end in mind and determine how the project can be self-sustaining and identify what succession planning needs to happen.
  • Identify what strategic relationships you can develop.
